TFC has been nominated for Tseng Hsu-pai Journalist Award for Excellence, for the second time

2022-09-16 研究與動態

The Taiwan FactCheck Center has been nominated for the 48th (2022) Tseng Hsu-pai Journalist Award for Excellence in Media Literacy Reporting, the second consecutive nomination for the TFC in the category and an encouraging sign of recognition for the foundation’s continuing effort after its winning the award in 2021.

The TFC has been nominated for the award for its effort in “debunking disinformation on all fronts” with its podcast program, “Bye Bye Disinformation.”

The program, hosted by TFC consultant Huang Chao-hui, invites experts from various fields to share their views on disinformation combatting and to help listeners distinguish fake news from real news in the sea of information, especially at the height of social debates or disruption such as the COVID 19 pandemic.

One of the most popular episodes of the program featured National Taiwan University Hospital infectious disease physician Hsieh Szu-min as the interviewee at the height of the pandemic this May, attracting more than 80,000 visits on YouTube as of today.

The podcast program was launched early this year and as of today has made 40 episodes. Abridged versions of the interviews are put on the program’s YouTube channel, and, in order to reach out to different social and generational groups, the TFC has been live-broadcasting the program on the radio every Sunday afternoon since July.

The TFC was also nominated in 2021 for the award in the media literacy category for both its fact-checking podcast program launched in the same year, and its website “Verification Toolbox,” which presented a pool of tools for the public to fact-check online information on their own and won the award with the latter.

The Tseng Hsu-pai Journalist Award is an annual award sponsored by the Tseng Hsu-pai Journalist Award Foundation that honors outstanding news reporting and professionalism by local media outlets. Excellence in Media Literacy Reporting of the Award is a category newly set up in 2021 to raise awareness about the importance of media literacy and its education among the public and media outlets.
